Realty Check
Every astute private investor will want to know of all the properties on offer, to be compared objectively. He also needs to access them in the most economic and dynamic manner. At REALTY CHECK we believe that we have rid the residential property industry of it shackles by not charging any fees to the seller - whatsoever – in-fact, we will assist him in doing a Comparative Market Analysis as well as optimising the features of his home to the potential Sellers Market.

It will not even cost you a cent for us to photograph and list your property on our website. Furthermore our National Call Centre (0800 REALTY) will gladly assist in any updates, changes or any queries related to your property. Advertising in alternative media i.e. outdoor, press will also be conducted in order to maximize its exposure. Finally although the Seller is normally responsible for payment of commission, the brunt of this exorbitant and fruitless cost is ultimately born by both the Seller and the Buyer – with REALTY CHECK no commissions are charged whatsoever nor upon conclusion or for that matter at any stage. On the contrary, you as the Seller can earn 20% of the 1% cash back which the Buyer is automatically entitled to should he / she obtain his loan through our Bond Broking Division, through your reference. The Buyer will then only receive 80% of the 1% of the bond amount.

Gunned Down on the N1
Another motorist slain on Rivonia offramp and robbed of phone

A second motorist has been murdered on the N1 highway Rivonia offramp in less than six weeks – and in chillingly similar circumstances.

A man believed to be a Qatar Airlines manager from the Seychelles had stopped at the side of the N1 South Rivonia off-ramp on Saturday night when he was shot in the head.

He died while speaking on his cellphone, having called a friend for directions.

The murder bears a marked similarity to the June 14 killing of Cape Town journalist Megan Herselman in the same area:

*Both were new to Johannesburg;

*Both stopped at the side of the highway believing they were lost;

*Both were shot dead through unopened passenger windows while talking on cellphones; and

*Both drove Nissan Almeras, which the killers did not steal.

The latest victim, who cannot be named as his next-of-kin have yet to be informed of his death, is from the Seychelles and was in South Africa for a few weeks.

Police said one or more assailants shot the motorist at least twice – in the head and neck – and escaped with his cellphone.

“He was busy talking on the phone and they came up from behind. They shot him through the window, which was closed,” said Johannesburg police spokesperson Constable Sefako Xaba.

It doesn’t look like he even saw them.”

Information from the police and paramedics indicates that the man was driving on the highway when he got lost. He was expecting to meet a friend in Rivonia.

A spokesperson for ER24, Nick Dollman, said the friend – who had been talking to the man when he was murdered – arrived on the scene and told them what had happened.

“From what we can gather, the friend was waiting for him on the other side of Rivonia, and told him to pull over because he was going to fetch him.

“The friend said, ‘I’ll turn around at William Nicol’. The he heard gun shots. He came back and saw people next to the car and was too scared to stop. He drove past and came back when he saw a tow truck at the scene.”

Dollman said the friend claimed he heard the victim pleading with his attackers to take the car and not hurt him. A full statement was taken by the police when they arrived on the scene.

The tow truck driver who stopped at the scene of the shooting placed a call to the ER24 control room in Paulshof. Dollman and a paramedic responded and were at the scene within three minutes.

“When we got there we found a silver Nissan Almera in the left emergency lane. There was a man in the vehicle with his seat belt fastened.

“He was slumped over the passenger seat and we could see two entry wounds in his head and neck and what looked like an exit wound through his cheek,” Dollman said.

Two empty shell cases were found on the road while a bullet was found on the dashboard, suggesting that a third shot fired from the same gun had jammed.

“There was absolutely nothing we could do for him, there were no signs of life,” said Dollman.

The car’s engine was still running and the hazard lights were flashing.

A bluetooth headset remained in the car and a gold wedding band was still on the victim’s hand. The only thing definitely missing was his cellphone.

Xaba would not be drawn on whether the Rivonia off-ramp was a crime hotspot but warned motorists not to stop “in the middle of nowhere” when lost in the city of anywhere else.

“Rather drive to the nearest police station, a garage or any place that will be safe.

“You cannot stop just anywhere as you never know what will happen to you.”

Springfield, PE : 2 Armed men chased by policeman
An old red VW fox was spotted driving up Circular Drive by an off-duty Policeman who noticed it only because when it stopped in front of him at John Rd to let two black/coloured men out, he saw they both had guns. He gave chase and they ran down Circular Drive, turned into Luke Rd and ran off down the railway line. The policeman stopped at the Swine and Tankard and asked the staff to phone 10111 for him. He spoke to 10111 then continued the chase. Who knows what these gunmen were going to do, but because of this alert, responsible and brave policeman, most likely an horrific crime was averted. Why would they have run - unless they were up to something - with their guns? There has already been a gun-murder in Luke Rd this year.

Introduction

The neighbourhood watch concept started in England. In 1986, Kirkholt in Lancashire had a yearly burglary rate of 1 in 4 out of 2000 semi-detached houses. A house watch scheme was implemented that lead to a 50% drop in 7 months. The Bristol area reported a drop of 90% over a 3-year period. The idea has also been applied in the USA with very positive results.

Now it is our turn. The safety of our families and property as well as our general well-being depends on our ability to do what is required. The crime rate currently being experienced is only the beginning, and if not stopped now, will escalate. The robberies will become more daring, with physical attacks and the rape of our wives, girl-friends and daughters following.

We have to assist the police by becoming their eyes and ears.

How does the watch operate?

The concept is for neighbours to band together to beat crime. All the residents of the area, i.e. the moms and dads, the singles, the children, the elderly, and the domestics who depend on our area for employment should be involved.

The home watch wants you to use your eyes to observe and to report anything you see that seems strange, for example people who are out of place and strange cars parked in unusual places at odd times. Use your ears as well - if you hear a thumping noise from next door, investigate. Is your neighbour beating his head against the wall or are thieves knocking the safe from the wall? This will require you to become alert to what is happening about you and to question what you see.

The neighbourhood or house watch does not involve patrolling the streets in the early hours, nor does it mean the invasion of your privacy by well-meaning, but over-enthusiastic, neighbours. It is also not a vigilante movement that takes the law into its own hands. It merely involves keeping your eyes and ears open as you go about your daily business. If you see something unusual, strange or suspicious, report it to the police; don’t take action and put yourself into danger. The watch will lead people to focus on the safety problem and to become more security conscious.

The first step is to get support from people of the area who understand the necessity and who are willing to participate in the organization required to get the idea running. Each watch will also have the support of a police officer from the local police station. The officer can give a talk, show videos, or carry out surveys to improve home security.

The information on incidents reported to the police officer will assist the police to plot the movement of thieves, identify vulnerable areas, and determine the time patterns of robberies. This in turn will assist the patrolling of the area and tracking down of the miscreants.

Organization

People need to know what is required, who to contact for advice, how to contact them and how to report incidents; therefore areas of responsibility must be clearly defined.

For instance, an enthusiastic person who is at home all day will appointed as the area co-ordinator. He/she will be responsible for regular contact with the police; recruiting; maintaining contact with street co-ordinators, and organizing group watch meetings.

Each street or block should also have a co-ordinator, whose responsibility will be to maintain contact with the street / block members. This person must be available during the day and easy to contact should an incident occur.

Although the group area watch should try to involve everyone from the area, there may be some that are not willing to become involved. This may because they have false idea of what is involved, so take the time to explain to them that only eyes, ears (and occasional street parties) are needed! Should the person remain adamant about not being involved, don’t worry. Leave them be – however, they still are part of the area and you can still keep an eye on their properties.
